Tony Humphries - fabric 04
Although Brooklyn-born - and despite his Kiss New York radio show and regular appearances at the city's El Morocco, Tribec and Studio 54 nightspots - Tony Humphries will forever be associated with New Jersey and his Zanzibar residency. Between 1981 and 1994 it became a breaking ground for local talent, and coupled with his developing production mastery, he helped make dance music superstars of Adeva, Phase II, Blaze, Smack Productions, Chaka Kahn, Donna Summer, Karen White and Regina Belle. By the mid-nineties he was one of the world's most in-demand DJs, and eventually relocated to Britain to become resident at The Ministry of Sound. After four years he returned to New York, beginning his Yellorange Productions Company.
"I've tried to stay true to myself and make something with the fabric dancefloor in mind. This is one for warm places - keep on believing." Tony Humphries
Tony Humphries blends a typically soul-laden selection that marries live instrumentation with electronics. Along with showcasing his trademark sound, he moves into the twisted beats of Sunshine Yellow and freeform house of Kingsburg. In short: a statement-making mix from a DJ truly deserving the tag 'legendary'.
